NetFlow is a network protocol developed by Cisco Systems for collecting IP traffic information. NetFlow has become an industry standard for traffic monitoring and is supported by platforms other than Cisco IOS such as Enterasys Switches.
Other vendors provide similar features but with different names:
- Jflow or cflowd for Juniper Networks
- NetStream for 3Com/H3C|HP
- NetStream for Huawei Technology
- Rflow for Ericsson
A large number of network device manufacturer use also sFlow which uses sampling to achieve scalability and is, for this reason, applicable to high speed networks.
